Going back to basics... part 1

Going back to basics... part 1
Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of questions recently regarding essential oils. The most prominent question has been, WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

Let's start here: As you might know, essential oils have gained popularity not just for their captivating fragrances but also for their documented therapeutic benefits. Let’s explore the science behind why essential oils are effective for our bodies, minds, and emotions.

What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell and flavor, or "essence," of their source. They are obtained through methods such as distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.

How Do Essential Oils Work?
The effectiveness of essential oils is primarily due to their chemical composition and how these compounds interact with the human body. Here are some key mechanisms:
  1. Absorption and Delivery:
    • Inhalation: When essential oils are inhaled, the aromatic molecules travel through the olfactory system directly to the brain, particularly affecting the limbic system, which is linked to emotions, behavior, and memory.
    • Topical Application: When applied to the skin, essential oils are absorbed through the skin's layers and into the bloodstream. This process allows the active compounds to circulate throughout the body and interact with various physiological systems.
  1. Chemical Composition:
    • Essential oils are composed of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as terpenes, esters, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and phenols. Each of these compounds has unique properties and effects.
    • For example, linalool (found in lavender) is known for its calming and anti-anxiety properties, while menthol (found in peppermint) is noted for its cooling and analgesic (pain-relieving) effects.
Scientific Benefits of Essential Oils
  1. Aromatherapy for Stress and Anxiety:
    • Lavender Oil: Research shows that lavender oil can reduce stress and anxiety levels by affecting the limbic system. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that lavender oil had significant anxiolytic effects, similar to some prescription medications.
  1. Antimicrobial and Antiviral Properties:
    • Many essential oils, such as tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil, have been shown to possess antimicrobial and antiviral properties. These oils may inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, which could make them useful in treating infections and in natural cleaning products.
  1. Pain Relief and Anti-inflammatory Effects:
    • Peppermint Oil: Contains menthol, which has been found to help with pain and reduce inflammation. Several studies can be found on Pub Med.
  1. Cognitive Function and Mood Enhancement:
Safety and Usage
While essential oils offer many benefits, they must be used safely:
  • Dilution: Essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil (such as coconut or jojoba oil) before applying to the skin to prevent irritation.
  • Quality: Use high-quality, pure essential oils from reputable sources to avoid adulteration and potential side effects.
  • Sensitivity: Conduct a patch test before using a new essential oil to check for allergic reactions.
Conclusion
Essential oils harness the power of natural plant compounds to promote physical and emotional well-being. Through scientific research, we understand how these oils interact with our bodies to provide therapeutic benefits. Whether used for stress relief, pain management, or cognitive enhancement, essential oils offer a natural and effective approach to holistic health. So, next time you inhale the soothing scent of lavender or feel the invigorating coolness of peppermint, you can appreciate the science that makes these experiences possible.

Waiting...

Waiting... by its mere definition, is the action of staying where one is; delaying action until a particular time or until something else happens.

Waiting is hard!! It is especially hard in a world where it seems immediate gratification is expected, has become the norm. Perhaps part of this is due to having the ability to "track" everything. Seriously... if you order food to be delivered, you can now track when your delivery person leaves the place of business all the way to your front door; if you order something online, you can track where your package is at from the time it leaves the warehouse; we can even track our family members movements...

Waiting is stressful... we expect things to happen in a certain manner, at a certain time. We most definitely do not like it when someone asks us to wait. I mean, have you ever ordered something only to have it take forever & a day to get processed/leave the warehouse, or have the shipping company experience a delay? Or how about when you have an appointment set for a certain time, you "race" to get there on time, fighting heavy traffic that is slowing you down,  then sit and wait, wait, wait... sometimes you wait for a period of time after your designated appointment time. Speaking of traffic... well, maybe it's better if I leave that for another day.

Can you relate to any of this?

What if I told you, in the grand scheme of things, time doesn't really matter and that we are meant to wait?

Waiting is powerful... and things are going to happen when they are supposed to happen, whether we like it or not. Time is not something we can control, not matter how much we try.

Waiting is important... sometimes, things happen to protect us. from something that isn't meant for us, from something (or someone) that might hurt us (or not be right for us), or from something that might be meant for someone else. Sometimes, things happen that we just do not understand, but there is a reason.

We should never underestimate the power, or the importance, of waiting.

SPRING CLEANING MADE EASY - part 1

Make A Shiftβ„’ Happy, Healthy Homeβ„’ KitSpring is here (even if it doesn't feel like it outside just yet).

Spring usually ushers in Spring Cleaning... a time to wash away the dirt & grime of having the house closed up for the winter. A time to refresh our surroundings.

Refresh your home this season with our favorite plant-based products, ditch conventional toxins and save money all at the same time! We use Thieves Household Cleaner for every surface in our home, making it incredibly affordable and versatile. Plus it is safe for our pets and little ones!

Why Thieves products? Because creating the space of our dreams through decluttering and the consistent tasks that help us stay on top of having peaceful, clean spaces doesn't do us much good if we then fill up those rooms with toxic chemical cocktails full of fragrance and ingredients hazardous to our respiratory health, skin, and immune systems.

The very first Thieves product (outside of the Thieves Essential Oil) I personally used was the Thieves Household Cleaner (THHC). I am very particular about my cleaning products, especially since I had an incident a few years back in cleaning our bathroom that resulted in severe respiratory complications. THHC makes everything sparkling clean without the harsh chemicals that caused my issues in the past. And one of the really cool things is, THHC comes in a super concentrated formula that you can dilute with plain tap water. I change the concentration in my spray bottles depending on what I am using for... my usual kitchen spray is 1.5 capfuls THHC to 16 oz of water. This works for countertops, stoves, sinks, spot washing walls, windows, wiping down the fridge... and so much more. Seriously, it is awesome to only have one cleaner to clean the whole house!! AND BONUS... the house smells so clean and fresh when I am done. Check back tomorrow to find out how I use more of the products found in the  Make A Shift™ Happy, Healthy Home™ Kit.

Sensibly Spoiling Our Faces

Sensibly Spoiling Our Faces
I've never really been one to use make-up because my skin is very sensitive and it would make me break out. And, quite frankly, who likes a face that resembles a pizza? Now don't get me wrong, I love pizza!! What I don't love is having my face look like it. So, as time went by, I did keep trying new options and finally gave into some peer pressure of trying mineral make-up. It didn't make any difference... I remained barefaced.

That is until I found Savvy Minerals. I fell in love... seriously!! I could finally stop running around barefaced!!! If you've ever used Savvy Minerals, you totally understand what I am talking about.

And then, a little over a year ago, Savvy Minerals went away... I may have cried a little. Well, okay, I cried a lot. I mean, I had seriously finally found a make-up I could use, and I couldn't get it anymore, and now I was going to have to go back to being barefaced.

Luckily, I had a "little stash" that I have been able to use, stretching as I've gone along, using it more sparingly as time has gone by. But, that stash is reaching the end of its viability. I mean, just last weekend, I was spraying my mascara wand with Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood Hydrosol trying to be able to get the very last little bit out of that last tube. I'm hoping I'll be able to get one more application tomorrow by employing the same strategy.

Now, imagine my excitement when I found out the original creator of Savvy Minerals was creating a new line!!!! Imagine again, my excitement that this new cosmetics line launched this week. That's right, my orders have been placed and I am now stalking my email for notification they have shipped, so I can then start stalking those delivery notifications. LOL

And with that, I will be able to retire my depleted stash while I treat myself to a whole new facial experience!!!

The new line is called, Beauty by VRAI and you can check it out here for yourself. This first launch is your "beauty basics" with additional new products in the production. When you get to the website, please make sure to check out all the different tabs that are loaded with educational information.

I'll be back next week to share my experience with this new line. Until then, have a blessed day...

Meet Deb Sosnowski

Hi friends, my name is Deb. I am a single mother of 2 adult sons, have 1 daughter-in-law and 2 amazing grandchildren. I am an active member of my Church community where you can usually find me ushering & EM on Sundays. I am also a founding member of our Ministry of Hope, as well as a participating member of our Prayer Shawl Ministry. I am also involved in our local and state Marine Corps League Auxiliary. In my down time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, walking, crocheting, and working with & helping Military members (and their families).

I began my personal health and wellness journey years ago to help with my autoimmune issues. I was at a point where I was experiencing limited mobility and one step away from accepting a protocol that carried with it some horrible side effects. After much research, I chose an alternative path of changing my diet, developing an exercise routine for myself, and found Young Living products. To say these changes and products have been life changing is an understatement... they have saved my life!

After retiring from my career as a Deputy Coroner, I thought it was the perfect time to start sharing my love for (Young Living products as a Brand Partner. With the experiences of my lifetime (nursing, teaching, helping with a family business, and even as a Deputy Coroner) it's no wonder I love helping people begin their path to a healthier lifestyle. As a Health & Wellness Advocate/Coach I am able to help people understand their situations and guide them on a path of wellness.
