By now, we have all heard of, and seen, the devastation in Lahaina, Maui, HI due to fires that swept through the city last week. Maui holds a special place in my heart and remains a dream retirement destination for me. Realistically, I may not retire there BUT, I will go back to Kihei to swim with the dolphins and turtles, watch for the whales to come into the bay, and just enjoy the solitude I find when I am there.

I shared on Facebook last week that the Young Living Foundation had set up a way for us to help in  raising funds to help the people of Lahaina. This morning, I received the following in an email from Young Living. This was sent to our YL members who live on Maui. It outlines how they (Young Living) will be directly (not just through the Foundation) helping them. It was also shared with members not living on Maui so that we are aware of what is happening.

Dear Valued Member,

Though we can't fathom the real-time stress and devastation you're facing in Maui, know that we stand united in solidarity. While we can't walk in your shoes, we're working tirelessly to provide assistance and relief in the wake of the recent fires. As the Young Living family, we're joining forces to ensure you feel our unwavering love. Our dedicated Member Services team will be calling you, not just to check in, but also give you available resources.

We’ve provided those resources below.

2. Essentials Kits: The Young Living team has put together complimentary kits with personal hygiene items like Lavender Mint Conditioner & Shampoo, Sacred Mountain & Charcoal Bar Soap, Kidscents Toothpaste, Aroma Brite Toothpaste, Dental Floss, and 15mL Lavender & Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood Single Essential Oil. You can obtain a kit by contacting the hotline, and all kits will be shipped at no cost to you.

We have also reached out to all Young Living members and employees to ensure they are armed with the best knowledge on how to donate most effectively to legitimate organizations – the ones doing good work on the ground, where YOU will feel the results firsthand. We have invited them to donate to the Maui Strong Fund at the Honolulu-based Hawaii Community Foundation. The D. Gary Young Foundation will be matching donations up to $20,000, organized by Brand Partners. The Foundation will also be contributing $20,000 to efforts by Convoy of Hope, which, has have been distributing essential supplies like food, water, sports drinks, hygiene items, and more.

How can I help? It’s difficult not to feel helpless during tragic moments like these. For those wanting to help, we’ve provided some resources below. Prior to donating with any organization, research is crucial to ensure your contribution aids those in need. Focus on Hawaiian nonprofits with a track record of rapid response, reputable global organizations, and check for any administrative fees to ensure 100% impact.

● Convoy of Hope: The D. Gary Young Foundation will be making a $20,000 donation to Convoy of Hope, a well-recognized humanitarian aid organization with a heart for those who are suffering, with whom we have partnered in the past. Convoy of Hope met with Hawaii Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, identifying pressing needs. Over the weekend, the organization sourced essential supplies locally and continues to work alongside local church partners to manage donations.

● Maui Strong Fund: Young Living believes that it is our duty to give hope to those who need it most. The D. Gary Young Foundation will also be matching donations up to $20,000 to the Maui Strong Fund at the Honolulu-based Hawaii Community Foundation, organized by Brand Partners Richard and Kimmy Brooks, who live on Lanai. Donations will support local nonprofits that are providing food, shelter, and immediate financial assistance. Those who are able and inclined may choose to donate here. There are no administrative fees; 100% of the funds will be distributed for community needs.

● Tap into your network: In such times, unity is paramount. To magnify the donation message, target your allies and audiences. Whether through a Facebook share or personal outreach, your impact can be profound. Sensitivity is crucial, given the financial challenges many are facing.

As we stand together, let's remember the Hawaiian wisdom: "Ho'okahi ka 'ilau like ana" – by working together, we can achieve great things.
Friends, I have heard a lot of criticism by a handful of people that left our company over the last couple of years but I do not buy into their nonsense, and hope you do not either. I have never worked for, or with, a company that truly cares about the lives of others the way Young Living does. They are there, day in and day out, to support people in whatever way they can. In disasters, be they natural or manmade, Young Living steps up in ways I have not experienced with other companies.

If you are looking for a way to help, you can click on this link... https://www.younglivingfoundation.org/fundraiser/donate/maui-fire and it will take you to the page the YL Foundation has set up for us to do just that. I know, and trust, that every penny of our donations go directly to supporting the people of Lahaina.

Thank you for listening and your help...
